The Free Spirit Philosophy
Although Free Spirit have expanded their product range considerably you will still find many of the same robust products featured here. This is because Free Spirit pride themselves in making the best product they can, thoroughly prototyping and testing them for months or even years before they launch, ensuring they stand the test of time.
The Hi-S Range
The Hi-'S' rods are fast or semi-fast actions utilising perhaps the best Japanese carbon available. These rods have a Low Resin 40t with a 1k weave in 24t giving them an attractive finish. Benefits are very slim, lightweight but stiff blanks, which have crisp responsive actions. They will 'assist' the average caster and good caster alike, as they have a very fast tip recovery, but are still relatively soft to aid fish playing. The range features the 'Perdurable' blank finish for a lifetime of service and good looks. Free Spirit use this material for carp, specialist and specialist float rods. The range is hand built in the U.K.
The S-Lite Range
These rods can cast huge distances, and in use, the power of the blank can be felt, as can the recovery speed, all aided by the thin blank and light tip. The casting versions of the ‘S’-Lite range uses the ‘ive’ name for both the 12ft and 13ft rods, and this is because the performance falls close to that of the Hi-’S’ives, but at a significantly reduced price.
As ever with rods from this stable, the finish and looks are impeccable, complemented by the weave and perdurable finish. The 40T low-resin ultra-slim blank is set off by the addition of a new Fuji reel seat, which really looks awesome with open sides, and it feels superb when you grip it. A carbon sleeve of the same material as the blank is fitted to help transmission through the seat to the hand, so reading the drop is easy. The rings have black frames to match the blank, and all fittings are stainless steel for durability.
The CTX Range
Free Spirit are very proud of what they have achieved with the new CTX range of carp rods covering every possibility from small water to extreme range with the S.U. models. A complex manufacturing process integrates 40t and 30t carbons with resin content below 25%. Wrapping alternately at 90 degrees and zero degrees for added strength, then further wrapping with 3mm bi-axis carbon tape at 45 degrees produces extremely strong yet ultra-light and slim blanks.
The Helical Range
The New Helical Range is at an unbelievable price point which offers great value for money. Using a blend of carbons for the butt and tip section and then wrapping with a helical loop tape finish produces a blank that fulfils the promise of casting and fish playing whilst keeping it light and slim. As with all Free Spirit rods the finish is cosmetically attractive and different and free from any paint or lacquer to maintain their appearance for many years. The build we have opted for is very modern with black seat fittings and black framed stainless-steel guides with a subtle red tipping around the logo. All rods feature abbreviated handles with DPS style size 18 reel seats and black Acetile collars and butt cap.
